What’s New About the New Diono Seats
Posted by Active Baby Canadian Online Baby Store on 2019 Jan 30th
If you are a fan of Diono, you have probably noticed that a change has taken place; Diono has renamed all of their child seats, but what else is new apart from the names?
The Diono Radian Line
With the entire Radian series being renamed, you might be expecting some major changes to their lineup. Most of the changes are relatively minor, but the Rainier line will have a few more significant ones as well.
Some of the new car seats will be labelled with a ‘3’ which has been added to indicate that the seats have the ability to fit 3 across in many mid-sized vehicles. These Diono convertible car seats feature a full-wrap cover, and heat-transferred labels, due to the new black plastic shell being covered.
There is an opening in the front of the cover, giving access to the forward-facing belt path. This gives you access to the end of the LATCH strap, allowing you to tighten it with ease. Should it ever somehow become necessary to replace the harness, doing so has become much easier; the access panels on the sides which have previously been held in place by screws now use silicon plugs to secure them.
Here are the models available, with both their old names and the new, as well as some features of each:
3R, formerly known as R100
- Capacity of 5 to 40 lbs when installed rear-facing.
- Capacity of 20 to 65 lbs when installed forward-facing.
- Capacity of 50 to 100 lbs when installed as a booster seat
3 RX, formerly known as R120
- Capacity of 5 to 45 lbs when installed rear-facing.
- Capacity of 20 to 65 lbs when installed forward-facing.
- Capacity of 50 to 120 lbs when installed as a booster seat.
- The weight limit for the RX is higher than the 3R when used rear-facing, or as a booster
3RXT formerly known as RXT

- Capacity of 20 to 65 lbs when installed forward-facing.
- Capacity of 50 to 120 lbs when installed as a booster seat.

New Rainier Models
The new Diono Rainier models benefit from a redesign that now provides greater side-impact protection in the head area, improving safety for your little one. The Diono Rainier models carry a “2” designation which, like the Radian, indicates the number of seats across that can fit in smaller vehicles. The Diono Rainier is limited to 2-across because it is wider across the top than the Diono Radian.
- Rainier 2AX
- Rear-facing weight capacity of 5 to 50 lbs
- Front-facing weight capacity of 20 to 65 lbs
- There is no booster seat mode for the 2AX. Forward- and rear-facing modes with harness
-
Rainier 2AXT
- Rear-facing weight capacity of 5 to 50 lbs
- Front-facing weight capacity of 20 to 65 lbs
- Booster seat capacity of 50 to 120 lbs.

Whether you are going for the new Rainier models, or the renamed Radian line, you can still expect the highest quality from Diono, for your child’s comfort and safety.
