UPPAbaby car seats in Canada: Mesa V3 and Aria V2 infant seats, Rove convertible and Alta V2 booster

By the Active Baby team, North Vancouver & Langley, BC · Updated October 2026 · Specs from UPPAbaby's Canadian manuals

The short answer: UPPAbaby's 2026 car seat lineup in Canada has four seats: the Mesa V3 and Aria V2 infant seats, the Rove convertible seat and the Alta V2 high-back booster. Together they take your child from newborn to about age 10. Choose the Mesa V3 for the longest use as an infant seat, or the Aria V2 for the lightest carry. Both click straight onto the UPPAbaby Vista, Cruz and Kona strollers.

UPPAbaby Mesa V3 infant car seat

UPPAbaby Mesa V3 infant car seat with canopy

The Mesa V3 is our top UPPAbaby pick for most families. Its SmartSecure base has auto-retracting UAS connectors and a red-to-green indicator that shows when the base is tight, so a correct installation is easy. In Canada it fits babies from 4 to 35 lb, so many babies can use it longer than the US version.

  • Fits: 4–35 lb, up to 32" (infant insert 4–11 lb)
  • Weight: 9.9 lb carrier, 9 lb base (base included)
  • Install without the base: yes, with the vehicle seat belt, including European belt routing for taxis and travel
  • Useful life: 10 years from the date of manufacture (Canadian model)
  • Aircraft: certified for aircraft (carrier only)

What's new vs the Mesa V2: a fourth "anti-rebound" handle position used in the car, a 25-position headrest (the V2 had 4), a bigger UPF 50+ canopy with a mesh peek-a-boo window, magnetic buckle holders and a refined insert for small babies. It works with the same base as the Mesa V2. The Mesa V3 also replaces the Mesa Max, which had a load leg; if you want a load leg, look at the Aria V2.

UPPAbaby Aria V2 infant car seat

UPPAbaby Aria V2 lightweight infant car seat, side view

At 6 lb, the Aria V2 is one of the lightest infant car seats you can buy. Its base adds a load leg and an Anti-Rebound+ panel, which reduce movement in a crash. It's ideal for parents who carry the seat a lot, live in a walk-up or are recovering from a C-section.

  • Fits: 4–22 lb, up to 32" (Canadian model)
  • Weight: 6 lb carrier; load-leg base included
  • Install without the base: yes, with the vehicle seat belt and European belt guide
  • Useful life: 10 years from the date of manufacture
  • Good to know: the 22 lb limit means many babies move to a convertible seat around their first birthday

What's new vs the original Aria: a taller height limit (32", up from 30"), a longer seat, better ventilation and an all-weather foot cover.

UPPAbaby Rove convertible car seat

UPPAbaby Rove convertible car seat in Greyson

The Rove is UPPAbaby's convertible car seat and the seat to move to after the Mesa or Aria. It replaced the Knox, and rides rear-facing up to 50 lb, compared with 40 lb for the Canadian Knox. Its QuickGuard lock-off doors make a seat-belt install a simple three-step job, and a red-to-green tension indicator shows when it's tight.

  • Rear-facing: 14–50 lb, up to 49" (comfort inlay for 14–20 lb)
  • Forward-facing: 30–65 lb, up to 49", always with the top tether
  • Weight: 25.2 lb, aircraft certified
  • Safety: anti-rebound bar for rear-facing, side impact protection pods and energy-absorbing foam
  • Useful life: 10 years from the date of manufacture
  • Good to know: it starts at 14 lb, so it isn't for newborns. Use the vehicle seat belt instead of the UAS connectors once your child is over 40 lb rear-facing or 45 lb forward-facing. Available by special order.

UPPAbaby Alta V2 high-back booster seat

UPPAbaby Alta V2 high-back booster seat

The Alta V2 is for school-age children who have outgrown a harness. Its SecureFit system keeps the lap belt low on the hips and the shoulder belt in the right place, and rigid UAS connectors hold the booster in place even when it's empty.

  • Fits: 40–100 lb, 38–57" (about 6 to 10 years)
  • Weight: 17 lb; 17.5" wide
  • Good to know: high-back only (no backless mode), 7-position headrest, side impact pods, washable fabric and a dishwasher-safe cup holder. Not for use on aircraft.
  • What's new vs the original Alta: a narrower seat, improved belt routing and lap-belt positioner, and higher armrests

Canadian vs US UPPAbaby car seats

UPPAbaby car seats sold in Canada are certified to Canadian standards and carry the National Safety Mark, and some limits differ from the US models you'll see in American reviews:

  • Mesa V3: 35 lb in Canada (30 lb in the US)
  • Aria V2: 22 lb and 32" in Canada (30 lb and 30" in the US)
  • Useful life: the Canadian Mesa V3, Aria V2 and Rove are rated for 10 years from the date of manufacture

Always go by the label on your seat, and don't use a car seat bought in the US in Canada.

UPPAbaby car seat FAQs

What is the height limit of the UPPAbaby Mesa V3?

32" (81.3 cm) in Canada, and the top of your baby's head must be at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) below the top of the headrest. Most babies reach this height limit before the 35 lb weight limit.

How long can my baby use the UPPAbaby Mesa?

There's no set age. Your baby can use it until they reach 35 lb or 32", or their head is less than 1 inch below the headrest. For most babies that's somewhere between 9 and 18 months.

What replaced the UPPAbaby Knox?

The UPPAbaby Rove. In Canada, the Knox was rear-facing to 40 lb and forward-facing from 25 to 65 lb. The Rove goes rear-facing to 50 lb and forward-facing from 30 to 65 lb.

Is the UPPAbaby Mesa V3 or Aria V2 safer?

Both meet Canadian safety standards. The Aria V2 base adds a load leg and an Anti-Rebound+ panel, while the Mesa V3 uses an anti-rebound handle position. The safest seat is the one installed and used correctly on every ride.

Can I use the UPPAbaby Mesa V3 without the base?

Yes. The carrier can be installed with the vehicle seat belt, which is handy for taxis, rideshares and travel. It's also certified for use on aircraft without the base.

Does the Mesa V3 fit the old Mesa base?

The Mesa V3 works with the same base as the Mesa V2. Check your manual if you have an older Mesa base.

Do UPPAbaby car seats expire?

Yes. The Canadian Mesa V3, Aria V2 and Rove have a 10-year useful life from the date of manufacture. Older models such as the Mesa V2, Mesa Max and original Aria were rated for 7 years. Check the label on your seat.

When is my child ready for the UPPAbaby Alta V2?

When they've outgrown their harnessed seat, weigh at least 40 lb and are at least 38" tall, and can sit properly for the whole ride. In BC, children must use a booster until they're 9 years old or 145 cm (4'9") tall.
