Snuggle Me Organic Lounger vs DockATot

Snuggle Me Organic Lounger vs DockATot

The DockATot is a multi-function baby product designed to hold and cuddle your child securely as they play, lounge, or rest. Described as a “docking station for your baby,” it was introduced in select markets in the US during 2015 and came to Canada in spring of 2016. It went on to become incredibly popular, appearing as a must-have item on baby registries everywhere, and gaining over 280,000 followers on Instagram, including several celebrities who raved over how well it helped their baby sleep.

Unfortunately, therein lay a problem: concerns began to arise over parents using them to allow their children to sleep unsupervised, and  Health Canada released an advisory against this practice. Baby nests, as the DockATot and similar products came to be known, were not approved for sleep due to the perceived risk of suffocation. Elina Furman, director of marketing at DockATot stated, “We do not promote our products to Canadians as intended for sleep accommodation.” Despite this, many online reviews point to the DockATot as being “perfect for co-sleeping.”

Although there was no official ban or recall, DockATot chose to halt all sales of the product in Canada, leaving parents heartbroken and sleep deprived. Another product that has become a popular replacement is the Snuggle Me Organic Lounger, but how does it compare to the DockATot?

Both the  Snuggle Me Organic and the DockATot are great products for recreating the sense of being cradled and supported in the womb. Both are soft and comfy, with raised sides to keep baby safe and happy. And both are designed for your little one to lounge and relax or play and interact with those around them. Unlike the DockATot, the Snuggle Me Organic does not recommend their lounger for co-sleep, but when baby is supervised, it makes a fine spot to nap.

For easy cleaning, both the Snuggle Me Organic and the DockATot have removable covers, and multiple colours are available. The Snuggle Me has multiple options for the fabric, such as the Snuggle Me Organic original with conventionally grown cotton and virgin polyester fill. The Snuggle Me Organic is organic cotton with polyester fill, and the Snuggle Me Wool features organic fill in addition to the organic cover. The DockATot does not offer organic fabric, although all materials are certified Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1.

Another difference between the two products relates to size. The Snuggle Me Organic is available in a single size, intended for babies aged 0-8 months. The DockATot Deluxe is for younger babies aged 0-8 months, but they also offer the DockATot Grand, which can accommodate babies from 9-36 months.

Perhaps the most significant difference, however, lies in the way the Snuggle Me’s centre is effectively a sling. This means that the firmness of the Snuggle Me Organic matches whatever it is placed upon, but it also has the effect of pulling the sides in slightly when in use. This causes the padded sides to effectively “hug” your little one, offering additional comfort while also helping to keep them on their back.

Having the DockATot removed from stores in Canada was disappointing to many, but if you are looking for an excellent baby lounger that matches or perhaps even surpasses the DockATot, why not give the Snuggle Me Organic a try?
